NEWSERA. Citizen science as a new paradigm for scientific communication.
With: Joana Magalhães
Abstract: NEWSERA is a European project whose main objective is to demonstrate that citizen science can be used as a powerful tool for science communication. 38 active projects have been selected as “pilots” and will participate in the #CitSciComm Labs, laboratories of co-creation of communication strategies aimed at different stakeholders (citizens, companies, public administration and scientific community) as well as journalists. The strategies will be redefined through an iterative process and working together with science communication and data journalism, representatives of the different stakeholder groups, and members of NEWSERA. NEWSERA will advance the current state of the art in science communication and demonstrate that citizen science increases confidence in science and science communication, promotes scientific literacy and therefore the fight against fake news.
18:30 – 19:30 Citizen and Researcher Workshops
Workshop for researchers I – NEWSERA LAB. Defining strategies for science communication aimed at policy makers
With: Blanca Guasch, Joana Magalhães, Leire Leguina, Mar Escarrabill
Abstract: This workshop is a reproduction of the pilot sessions that are being carried out in the NEWSERA project, which deals with citizen science as a new paradigm of science communication. The project seeks to integrate citizen science into science communication, as a tool to open up science and innovation to society. To do this, it analyzes and evaluates the strategies aimed at actors of the quadruple helix in citizen science projects, in order to improve their scientific communication practices and their impact on each stakeholder. Starting from this context, the workshop will deal with how to define a communication plan for a specific citizen science project. In the first part of the session, the project will be presented and the associated challenges and opportunities will be detected. Based on these, participants will define possible communication actions, and understand the possible benefits for the project and for stakeholders. Finally, the concrete plan will be defined, with prioritized and detailed actions. This process will help to understand how citizen science and science communication can interact and join forces in the same direction.
These events will be in Spanish.
